Grand View Health’s efforts to promote organ, eye and tissue donation have earned statewide recognition.
The hospital has received Platinum designation through The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania’s (HAP) 2024 Donate Life Pennsylvania Hospital Challenge.
The campaign, held annually in April during Organ Donation Awareness Month, encourages Pennsylvania hospitals to increase organ, eye and tissue donation awareness within their hospitals and communities.
“The Donate Life Challenge is one of the most fulfilling activities we participate in each year, because we know that one donor can save up to eight lives,” says Douglas Hughes, RN, BSN, MBA, President and CEO of Grand View Health. “I’m humbled by the tremendous effort of our employees who volunteered to educate others about the lifechanging power of organ donations and recruit new donors.”
This year’s efforts — led by Jillian Laudenslager, RN, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Grand View Health — included organ donation signup and recruitment events inside the hospital, along with promotional activities aimed at increasing the number of donors in Bucks and Montgomery counties.
Grand View employees wore green and blue to boost visibility about organ donation on National Blue & Green Day on April 12, and a team of colleagues showed further support by competing in the 27th annual Gift of Life Donor Dash in Philadelphia on April 28.
HAP partnered with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the two organ procurement organizations serving the commonwealth — the Center for Organ Recovery & Education and Gift of Life Donor Program — to support the challenge.
“HAP commends Pennsylvania hospitals and our partners for their terrific work to support and raise awareness about organ donation,” says Nicole Stallings, HAP President and CEO. “The level of participation in the challenge demonstrates the commitment and dedication hospital teams have for the health of their communities. Increasing the number of organ, eye and tissue donors is critical to helping hospital teams save and improve lives.”
Grand View Health was one of 118 hospitals statewide that participated in this year’s challenge.
